VO Conferences and the Introverted Character
I’ve signed up for VO Atlanta 2024.
As an introvert, the excitement of attending is tinged just a tad by the knowledge that I will need to guard against overstimulation. For me, that feels like a sudden drop in energy as well as disinterest in attending yet another workshop. Luckily, this is easily remedied by giving myself permission to disconnect whether that be returning to my room for idle television time, a nap or lunch on my own. And before I know it, the fuel tank has been topped up and I’m ready to go again.
As a teenager growing up in Trinidad, there was no public discourse about how different personalities traverse the social sphere, and I thought that I was deficient in social skills. But anyone who knows me and who has seen me work a dinner party from one end to another knows otherwise. I just march to a different rhythm and recharge on my own instead of with others. And that’s fine.
At conferences, I make a point of walking up to others who may be on their own and hesitant to make the first move. Let’s help each other out. Hope to see you there.
